The goal of the Purdue Coaches Golf School is to expose serious young golfers, ages 11-18, to collegiate golf through interaction with top coaches and players, and to prepare them through instruction, academic enhancement, and goal setting.
The Purdue Coaches Golf School offers a session of expert golf instruction and fun this summer on the campus of Purdue University, located in West Lafayette, Indiana. Purdue University has a beautiful campus, with some of the best golf facilities in the country.
So come join us for what promises to be a great school. We will provide outstanding coaching and facilities in a serious, but fun learning environment.
Curriculum
Again this year, our curriculum will include “academic enhancement,” a series of evening seminars on study skills, time management, stress management, and preparing academically for college golf. Students will complete daily station rotations that cover every phase of the game. Topics such as fitness, tournament preparation, course strategy, rules, equipment, and psychology are also covered. Students will also participate in competitive intramural and recreational activities. Everyone will take home a school notebook, which will include the week’s written notes on instruction, analysis of swing and equipment, and drill recommendations for future improvement. Coach Devon Brouse, the golf school’s director, heads a highly motivated instructional staff consisting of other PGA professionals and top college coaches. Their expert instruction is exceeded only by their willingness and desire to help junior players develop and refine their skills.
The tuition includes all room and board, instruction, and use of the range and course. Each student will take home a golf school shirt and hat.
A non-refundable deposit of $600 must be included with your registration form. The balance is due May 1, 2016. Purdue University is not responsible for costs incurred due to cancellation.
On November 23, 2009, Purdue’s Kampen Course at the Birck Boilermaker Golf Complex was honored again. This recent recognition was a #4 ranking by Golfchannel.com in its Top 10 College Golf Courses.
Golfchannel.com polled over 160 college golf coaches to determine the top 10 college courses in the U.S., and the Kampen Course came in at #4. The redesign by Pete Dye of the Allen/Ackerman Hills course opened June 1, 2016.
FACILITIES AND LODGING
All instruction and play will be at Purdue’s Birck Boilermaker Golf Complex, a 36-hole layout that includes the Pete Dye-designed Kampen Course and the Allen/Ackerman Hills Course, where Purdue hosted the NCAA Championship won by Jack Nicklaus. Purdue’s complex also includes an incredible practice facility.
In October 2005, the new $2.7 million indoor golf training center opened, giving Purdue one of the finest golf facilities of any university in the nation. The Kampen Course has hosted the 2000 Western Boys Junior, the 2003 Women’s NCAA Championship, the 2005 “Big I” tournament, the 2008 Men’s NCAA Championship, the 2009 Women’s Big Ten Championship, and the 2011 Men’s Big Ten Championship, and the 2017 Men’s NCAA Regional.
Students will be housed in one of Purdue’s air-conditioned residence halls, within walking distance of the golf course. Students do not need to bring sheets or towels, but do need to bring toiletries. Our facilities are outstanding and supervision is provided 24 hours a day. Rooms are furnished for double occupancy only. Roommates may be requested, but requests must be mutual.
Students traveling by air can fly into Indianapolis International Airport, which is a one-hour drive from Purdue’s campus. Arrive the morning of the first day and schedule last day departures after 4 p.m. Camp registration begins at 11 a.m. and orientation starts promptly at 1 p.m. Transportation is available between the airport and campus.
Medical Care and Insurance
Medical needs will be administered through the Purdue University Student Health Center, located close to Mackey Arena, or by a member of Purdue’s athletic training staff. All campers are covered by a blanket insurance policy covering injuries sustained at camp, up to a maximum of $15,000 and in most cases $10,000 maximum coverage for illness. Coverage does not extend to preexisting conditions. This coverage does not replace personal health insurance. A licensed physician must sign the registration form (a school medical form signed no more than 12 months prior to camp is also acceptable). No medical forms will be returned. All registrations must include this in order to hold your space
