Stanford’s Anne Walker named National Coach of the Year!!

Congratulations to Head Coach Anne Walker from Stanford University on being named National Coach of the Year!!

Her team won the NCAA National Championship in dramatic fashion over Baylor University 3 and 2. Of course, the last match went into an epic sudden death playoff.

We are excited to have Coach Anne Walker at our CGC – Dallas and CGC – Scotland events this summer!!

“One in four golfers competing collegiately are international, yet many find their way to the college game by sheer luck. CGC Europe is a terrific idea and an opportunity for international players to hear directly from some of the top college coaches on the best pathway to the collegiate circuit. Beyond that, Dundonald Links is one of the finest courses in Scotland and will offer the perfect backdrop for competitors to play competitively and at the same time receive feedback and coaching from the instructors. This is a fantastic opportunity for junior golfers in Europe who are interested in pursuing college golf in the States.” – Anne Walker, Head Coach, Stanford University

Successful junior golf walk-ons

For example, many families of junior golfers fall in love with school mascots and colors. When in fact they should be falling in love with the schools academics and researching the coaches as much as possible. There are so many examples of smaller colleges that have tremendous success on the golf course, however they don’t have a huge football or basketball program.

Here are two great article written by Golfweek’s Beth Ann Nichols. She follows the success of junior golfers who walked-on at various colleges.

In their words: College-golf walk-ons who made it.
